Welcome to the
Waimea Rural Fire Authority

Current Regional Fire Danger : Moderate

Fire Permits are being issued through to Sunday the 21st of December. In some parts of the District where it is drier such as Hira permits may be issued for a shorter time frame. The small amount of rain we have had around the coastal areas will evaporate with forecast strong winds. On days when we get the south west winds the fire danger escalates rapidly.

Get a permit and check the weather forecast 3 days ahead before you light your fire.Be very careful when the south west wind is blowing / forecast and ensure any previous fires are out and do no re-ignite.

Permits will not be issued from the 21st Dec to January 4th. The only exception to this is for cooking fires on some beaches below the high tide level

The environment consists of varying degrees of fire risk & hazard, which as proven by history,
need focused fire management.  The fire management needs of this diverse environment are as
diverse as the environment itself ranging from the forestry harvesting operations undertaken in
the steep back country to the lifestyle farmer.  Fire management within this environment is divided
